Gallon House - Long Slow Weekends

Celebrating five years at Gallon House is a ‘slow’ success for Rick and Sue Hodgson.

Gallon House has been recognised by Alastair Sawday publishing, in their new guide book, Go Slow England, as one of only a handful of places to say in England which truly embrace the principles of The Slow Movement.

Alastair Sawday says, ‘The Slow movement is borne of a renewed regard for the simple pleasures in life: Slow Food celebrates meals prepared with love and consumed at leisure’.

Nigel Slater who writes the foreword to the book describes ‘slow accommodation’ as ‘somewhere that is rich with a sense of place. A place where everything feels right from the floor boards to the bread to the flowers on the table. What appeals to me is the idea of locally produced food which has been cooked simply and with respect. I like food to be what it is, food with honesty and a heart and a soul’.

Rick Hodgson of Gallon House says, ‘the slow movement embodies clearly my own beliefs in what real excellence in food preparation and service is about; Its about love and care through out the food cycle, from the small producer who truly cares about what he or she produces to the kitchen where the chef treats the food with real respect, to the way in which the food is served’
